Student Life

Visa
  • The international students need to obtain D-2-6 visa to study in Korea.
  • To apply for the visa, students should contact the Korean Embassy or a Consulate at their country of origin.
  • Please refer to the following website regarding visa application procedures:
  • The location of the embassy and consulate of the Republic of Korea should appear on the website.
  • In general, students should take the following documents with them when they apply for the visa.
  • The documents required for visa issuance will be provided in advance to the students who are finally accepted to the exchange program.
  • Before visiting a Korean Consulate or Embassy, please contact the office to check the required documents again since it might be slightly different from each office.
    • Passport (valid throughout the duration of your stay)
    • Application form
    • Application fee
    • Certificate of admission (will be provided by UNIST International Affairs Team)
    • Letter of invitation (will be provided by UNIST International Affairs Team)
    • Certificate of the latest scholastic achievement
    • Financial statement
Health Insurance
  • For students who hold D-2 visa must subscribe to Korea National Health Insurance (NHI).
  • Since it takes more than a month to subscribe to NHI,
    It is highly recommended to prepare traveler’s insurance that can cover at least your first month in Korea.
  • NHI fee: approximately 55 USD per month. (about 77,000KRW)
Accomodation
  • UNIST provides the dormitory to all international exchange students who submit their applications.
    • double room only
    • All rooms are furnished with beds, desks, bookshelves, closets, etc.
    • The accommodation fee: approximately 750,000KRW~1,100,000KRW per semester

      except the water and electricity deposit fees (total deposit fees: 180,000KRW)

    • At the end of the semester, the remaining balance of the deposit fee will be refunded after deducting the actual water and electricity usage costs.

      Amount of fees can be subject to change.

  • Students need to bring their own blanket and pillow since these are not provided by the dorms.
